EAST TENNESSEE HEALTH INFORMATION NETWORK

An innovative approach to Healthcare

EAST TENNESSEE HEALTH INFORMATION NETWORK

The East Tennessee Health Information Network (etHIN) is a community coalition teaming with local hospital systems, the Knoxville Academy of Medicine and community physicians, patients/consumers, payers and employer leaders collaborating on creating a consumer-driven interoperable health care information network utility that significantly improves health care safety and quality while making care more affordable.

etHIN seeks to make its network available within East Tennessee to all consumers, physicians, clinics, diagnostic centers and other point-of-care facilities, hospitals, employers and insurers. etHIN is “user-friendly” not requiring “new” technology to access its secure system.

Once noteworthy success is achieved in the 17 county region of the Knoxville/Oak Ridge Innovation Valley area, etHIN intends to present itself as a national model for patient-driven health care information interoperability.

The East Tennessee Health Information Network (etHIN) is a Regional Health Information Organization that implements state-of-the-art technology to provide access to patient history at any participating point-of-care facility. etHIN is an innovative partnership in East Tennessee, headquartered in Knoxville, to demonstrate how technology can be used to improve health care quality at the point of service while reducing costs.

East Tennessee Health Information Network provides a secure infrastructure so that an authorized health-care provider with a legally permissible need for information about a patient may obtain it. etHIN itself does not provide medical services, but facilitates quick, safe care by providing full and complete patient information for medical decision making.
