What we do - DIRECT DELIVERY

etHIN Direct is a secure email messaging system designed for the exchange of patients’ Protected Health Information (PHI) and communication between participating health care providers and servicers. It was created to enable health care providers to send authenticated, encrypted health information only to other known and trusted health care providers and entities, a much safer method than sharing patient information than via fax, email, couriers, and standard mail.

Traditional communication channels are acceptable for sharing non-sensitive patient information, but there are security risks involved with sending PHI using those methods. etHIN Direct allows authorized providers to securely share information with other providers who use Direct, whether or not they use an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Direct secure messages cannot be sent or forwarded to a traditional email address, further ensuring the security of protected health information.

etHIN utilizes Direct secure messaging as one of several delivery methods for sending data to participating providers.
